Starting Monday, November 10, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will temporarily reduce flight capacity at approximately 40 major U.S. airports. This precautionary measure is due to ongoing staffing shortages and the impact of the government shutdown on air traffic control operations.

The FAA and airlines are collaborating to maintain safety and minimize disruptions. The capacity reductions are not full cancellations; instead, airlines will operate fewer flights during peak hours, typically between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Most international flights will continue as planned.

The affected airports include some of the busiest in the U.S., such as Atlanta, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York JFK and LaGuardia, Miami, Orlando, Phoenix, Seattle, San Francisco, and Washington D.C., among others. Some smaller regional airports will also be impacted, though the primary focus is on high-traffic hubs.

• Stay calm: Most flights are still operating. The reductions are around 10%, not a full shutdown.
